An aerial view of (g)Host City

You are high above Edinburgh, looking down on (g)Host City.

Every blue marker on this map leads to a sound piece created by an artist in response to a specific place in Edinburgh – a graveyard, a shopping centre, a city square, a ruined chapel…

Some of the pieces take you on a journey, by foot or bus. Others invite you to stay still and contemplate the space in a new way. All are designed to be listened to in the physical locations they describe – so get some headphones and take a journey across the city. Or, if you’re not in Edinburgh, create your own (g)Host City by choosing your own locations in which to experience the work.

Artists who have recorded work for (g)Host City include Momus, Kieran Hurley, Jenny Lindsay, Alan Bissett, Kirstin Innes, William Letford, Jim Colquhoun, Hannah McGill, JL Williams and Kirsty Logan.

Explore the map to find an artwork near you. Alternatively, browse our A-Z of artists.

You can stream all of the pieces on the map for free via Bandcamp, or click on Bandcamp, iTunes or Amazon to download them in a way that suits you. All proceeds go to the artists who created the work.
